Under June’s grey morning shroud,
Fukuura Bridge stands out proud,
Vermilion amidst the pines so green,
Matsushima’s charm, a tranquil scene.
Photo Description – The Iconic Fukuura Bridge
This photograph captures the iconic vermilion Fukuura Bridge from Saigyo Modoshi no Matsu Park in Matsushima Town, Miyagi Prefecture. Despite the overcast sky and muted colors of the rainy morning, the vibrant vermilion bridge stands out prominently against the backdrop of lush green pines and the calm waters of Matsushima Bay, one of Japan’s Three Great Views.
Story Behind the Photo – Capturing the Essence of Matsushima
On an early June morning, I visited Matsushima, famous for its stunning bay views. From Saigyo Modoshi no Matsu Park, I aimed to capture the essence of this scenic area, even under the heavy rain clouds. The vermilion Fukuura Bridge, an iconic landmark, provided a striking contrast against the subdued tones of the landscape. Despite the cloudy weather, the bridge’s vibrant vermilion color highlighted the serene and picturesque beauty of Matsushima, reminiscent of a traditional ink wash painting.
From an Amateur Photographer’s Perspective – Finding Beauty in Contrast
The goal of this photograph was to emphasize the contrast between the vibrant vermilion Fukuura Bridge and the surrounding muted tones of Matsushima Bay on a cloudy day. Framing the scene to include the bridge prominently against the lush green pine trees and the calm bay was crucial. Balancing the exposure to capture the details of the bridge while maintaining the soft, tranquil atmosphere of the landscape was challenging. This image reflects the serene beauty of Matsushima and the striking impact of the vermilion bridge, even on an overcast day.
