My First Onomichi Series: Day 3/6
From Senkoji’s height, the city unfolds,
Bridges span the water, tales untold.
Shipyards and ports, a maritime past,
In Onomichi’s grasp, memories cast.
Photo Description – Harbor and Bridges
This photo captures the eastern view of Onomichi Waterway from the summit of Mount Senkoji in Onomichi, Hiroshima Prefecture. The scene showcases the Onomichi Ohashi Bridge and Shin-Onomichi Ohashi Bridge spanning the waterway, with the bustling cityscape and shipyards in the foreground. The distant islands of the Seto Inland Sea blend into the misty horizon, adding depth and tranquility to this vibrant port town.
Story Behind the Photo – Industrial Charm
Taken from the observation deck at the top of Mount Senkoji, this photo offers a panoramic view of Onomichi’s eastern waterway. The sight of the Onomichi Ohashi Bridge and Shin-Onomichi Ohashi Bridge highlights the city’s industrial charm and its importance as a maritime hub. Although time was limited and the drive along the Shimanami Kaido starting from the Shin-Onomichi Ohashi was not possible, this view inspires a future journey on a clear day, exploring the scenic coastal route.
From an Amateur Photographer’s Perspective – Future Adventures
Visiting Onomichi with limited time, I ascended Mount Senkoji to capture its renowned views. The sight of the bridges and shipyards encapsulated the essence of this historic port town. Despite the overcast skies, which softened the scene’s colors, the industrial beauty and the promise of the Shimanami Kaido drive were palpable. I look forward to returning on a sunny day to fully experience and photograph the coastal route, but this image remains a cherished glimpse of Onomichi’s maritime legacy.
