Kamakura Hydrangea Series: Day 5/6
In Meigetsu-in’s sacred hall,
Where blue hydrangeas softly bloom,
Through Enlightenment’s window tall,
Green vistas in the room.
Photo Description – A Glimpse Through Enlightenment
This photograph captures the serene beauty of the main hall at Meigetsu-in in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture. Blue hydrangeas are elegantly displayed, complemented by the iconic “Window of Enlightenment” in the background. Through this circular window, vibrant green foliage basks in the sunlight, creating a stunning contrast with the hall’s dimly lit interior, which is softly illuminated by warm orange lighting. The scene beautifully encapsulates the tranquil and refined aesthetics of Japanese design.
Story Behind the Photo – Capturing Tranquility and Beauty
On a mid-June morning, I visited the main hall of Meigetsu-in in Kamakura. Inside, the blue hydrangeas arranged near the “Window of Enlightenment” caught my eye. The lush green scenery outside, framed by the window, created a serene and contemplative atmosphere. This shot, with the vibrant hydrangeas in the foreground and the iconic window in the background, perfectly captures the essence of Meigetsu-in, showcasing the harmony between nature and traditional Japanese architecture.
From an Amateur Photographer’s Perspective – Framing Serenity
Photographing this scene in Meigetsu-in’s main hall was a profound experience. The challenge was to balance the dimly lit interior with the bright, sunlit view through the “Window of Enlightenment.” The blue hydrangeas provided a striking focal point against the traditional tatami mats and the soft orange lighting. By carefully adjusting the exposure, I aimed to capture the tranquil beauty and serene atmosphere that Meigetsu-in is renowned for.
