Kamakura Hydrangea Series: Day 1/6
In Kamakura’s tranquil fold,
Hydrangeas bloom in blue array,
Ancient gate and nature’s gold,
In morning light, they gently sway.
Photo Description – A Glimpse of Tranquility
This photo captures the serene beauty of Meigetsu-in in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, famous for its stunning hydrangeas. The scene features the temple’s main gate, partially obscured by the vibrant blue hydrangeas that bloom in the foreground. The lush greenery surrounding the gate adds to the sense of tranquility, offering a peaceful contrast to the wooden architecture. Despite the presence of many visitors, this moment encapsulates the calm and timeless essence of Meigetsu-in.
Story Behind the Photo – A Day at the Hydrangea Temple
In mid-June, on a late morning, I visited Meigetsu-in, known as the Hydrangea Temple, in Kamakura. The decision to start my day leisurely led to encountering a large crowd, all eager to see the famous blooms. Amidst the throng of visitors, I managed to capture this serene scene, where the blue hydrangeas framed the temple’s gate beautifully, embodying the peaceful spirit of this historic site.
From an Amateur Photographer’s Perspective – Capturing Serenity
Photographing Meigetsu-in was a unique challenge due to the sheer number of visitors. I aimed to find a composition that highlighted the tranquility of the temple despite the crowd. The vibrant hydrangeas in the foreground provided a perfect frame for the historic gate. Balancing the light and capturing the essence of this serene place required patience and a keen eye for detail, making the experience all the more rewarding.
