Blue skies and sea, green trees anew,
White bridge arches, spring’s bright hue,
Kesennuma’s breeze, fresh and light,
Capturing a day, serene and bright.
Photo Description – Kesennuma Oshima Ohashi in Spring
This photograph captures the stunning Kesennuma Oshima Ohashi, also known as the “Tsurugame Ohashi,” on a refreshing June afternoon. The white arch bridge connects Kesennuma Oshima to the mainland, standing out against the blue sky, blue sea, and lush green trees. The image reflects the fresh and vibrant atmosphere of Tohoku’s spring.
Story Behind the Photo – Capturing a Symbol of Recovery
On an early June afternoon, I photographed the Kesennuma Oshima Ohashi, a bridge that symbolizes the recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake. Completed in the spring of 2019, this impressive arch bridge is one of the few of its kind in Japan, connecting the mainland to Kesennuma Oshima. Known affectionately as the “Tsurugame Ohashi,” this bridge stands as a beacon of hope and renewal for the region. The day was perfect for capturing the bridge’s brilliance amidst the serene landscape.
From an Amateur Photographer’s Perspective – Highlighting Hope and Renewal
The goal of this photograph was to highlight the symbolism of hope and renewal embodied by the Kesennuma Oshima Ohashi. Framing the white arch bridge against the vibrant blue sea and sky, and the lush greenery, was essential to convey a sense of freshness and new beginnings. Balancing the exposure to emphasize the bright, clean lines of the bridge and the natural beauty around it was key. This image aims to evoke a feeling of optimism and the spirit of recovery.
