Blue Skies and Virgin Slopes: A Morning at Pilatus Tateshina

jsqwebmaster, 02/05/202404/04/2024

Imagine waking up to a world where the sky is a flawless blue and the ground below, meticulously groomed yet untouched by skiers, mirrors the morning’s freshness. This is the serene morning I experienced at Pilatus Tateshina Snow Resort in Chino, Nagano Prefecture. Amidst the biting cold of early February, the resort presented a breathtaking canvas, beautifully prepared and awaiting the day’s first adventurers.

Photo Description – An Untouched Winter Wonderland

The photograph showcases a moment of stillness before the flurry of activity begins, highlighting the stark contrast between the vivid blue skies and the immaculately groomed slopes of Pilatus Tateshina Snow Resort. The scene captured is one of prepared readiness, with the slopes pristine and smooth, reflecting the morning light and creating a sense of anticipation for the tracks soon to be made.

Story Behind the Photo – Capturing Serenity Amidst the Cold

Upon arrival at Pilatus Tateshina Snow Resort, the day lived up to its sunny forecast, revealing a cloudless, radiant sky that made the cold somewhat forgettable. The resort, beloved for its welcoming slopes and stunning vistas, was tranquil in the early hours, offering a perfect tableau for photography. Despite my ongoing learning with the TG-7 camera, shooting in RAW for extensive post-editing allowed me to accurately capture the vivid contrast of the morning’s palette.

From an Amateur Photographer’s Perspective – Challenges and Triumphs in the Snow

With my OM Digital Solutions TG-7 in hand, the morning at Pilatus Tateshina Snow Resort presented both a challenge and an opportunity. My experience with TG-7 is still evolving. Faced with the unpredictability of fully mastering its capabilities, I opted to shoot in RAW to grant myself greater flexibility during post-processing. This decision stemmed from a desire to ensure that the vivid blues of the sky and the immaculate condition of the slopes were captured as accurately as possible. Adjusting the images post-shoot allowed me to better reflect the true beauty of the moment, highlighting the pristine conditions of the slopes under a radiant sky.
