On a calm morning in early December, I captured the serene beauty of Shichirigahama Beach in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture. The beach’s expansive sands and the azure sea were sparsely dotted with strollers. In the distance, Enoshima Island to the left and Mount Fuji to the right formed a captivating backdrop under the late autumn blue sky.
Photo Description – A Peaceful Morning on the Coast
While my last visit in October revealed many surfers enjoying the waves along the coastal road, this day presented a tranquil scene. Shichirigahama is renowned not only for its Zen temples and shrines but also as a popular surfing destination in Kamakura. The quietness of the beach on this day was a rare sight compared to its usual liveliness.
Story Behind the Photo – Seeking the Perfect Frame
Equipped with a 50mm lens, I strolled along the beach, capturing various angles. However, upon returning home and attempting to crop the photo for Instagram’s 1×1 format, I struggled to fit both Enoshima and Mount Fuji into the frame. This shot, taken near Kamakura High School Station, made me wish I had ventured further to Inamuragasaki for a better perspective. Next time, I plan to explore that area for a different view.
From an Amateur Photographer’s Perspective – Challenges of Composition
The challenge of capturing such expansive landscapes in a single frame is always present. Choosing the right spot and the right moment to include key landmarks like Enoshima and Mount Fuji requires forethought and sometimes, a bit of luck. This experience has taught me to consider composition more carefully in future shoots.
