As dusk fell in early December, I captured a serene view of Onoseto from a ferry traveling from Miyajima to Miyajimaguchi in Hiroshima Prefecture. The sky, painted in shades of orange, reflected beautifully on the calm Seto Inland Sea. Oyster rafts, a staple of Hiroshima’s famed produce, floated gently on the orange-tinted waters, with lights from the distant town of Ono twinkling in the backdrop.
Photo Description – Dusk’s Glow on the Seto Inland Sea
This photo encapsulates the tranquil beauty of Onoseto at dusk. The orange hues of the evening sky bathed the sea and the oyster rafts in a warm glow, creating a picturesque scene. The distant lights of Ono’s urban landscape added a subtle contrast to the natural beauty of the Seto Inland Sea, capturing the essence of a peaceful evening in Hiroshima.
Story Behind the Photo – Capturing the Ephemeral Beauty of Onoseto
After spending half a day exploring Miyajima, I boarded the ferry back as darkness began to envelop the island. As I bid farewell to the Seto Inland Sea at sunset, I was captivated by the view and pressed the shutter. Onoseto, nestled between the renowned Miyajima and the former town of Ono in present-day Hatsukaichi City, is known for its tranquil waters and as a prime location for oyster farming.
From an Amateur Photographer’s Perspective – Challenges of Twilight Photography
Capturing this moment was a test of patience and skill, especially with the ferry crowded and the light fading fast. Positioning myself carefully amidst the passengers, I stabilized the camera and used continuous shooting to minimize hand-shake. The joy of digital photography is being able to take numerous shots, and thankfully, I managed to capture this one with minimal blur.
