Iconic Beauty of Miyajima: Itsukushima Shrine’s Torii and Main Hall

jsqwebmaster, 12/11/202304/04/2024

On a clear afternoon in early December, I captured the iconic view of Itsukushima Shrine in Miyajima, Hiroshima Prefecture. From the ferry, I photographed the vivid vermilion torii gate and the shrine’s main hall, both symbols of Miyajima, one of Japan’s three most scenic places. With the tide low, numerous tourists were visible around the gate.

Photo Description – Emblematic Vista of Miyajima
This photograph, taken from the ferry, offers a unique perspective of Itsukushima Shrine. The vivid colors of the torii gate and the shrine’s main building contrast with the surrounding environment. This serene scene captures the spiritual essence of the place, emphasizing the harmony between the sacred structure and the natural setting.

Story Behind the Photo – A Majestic Return to Miyajima
Returning to Miyajima after a long time, the 10-minute ferry journey provided an opportunity to view the island from a different perspective. I was able to capture both the torii gate and the main hall in one frame, seizing the opportunity to photograph this revered site and its interaction with the natural landscape.

From an Amateur Photographer’s Perspective – Capturing the Spiritual Heart of Miyajima
My goal was to capture a photograph that not only showcases the beauty of Itsukushima Shrine but also reflects its status as an icon of Miyajima, one of Japan’s three most beautiful landscapes. This image is a testament to the shrine’s cultural and spiritual significance.
