The Naruto Strait, with its whirlpools and the magnificent Onaruto Bridge, remains an iconic symbol of nature’s power and human engineering coexisting in harmony. This photograph, while not perfect, captures a moment in time, a snapshot of the ever-changing dance between the sea and the sky.
Photo Description – The Dance of Tides and Engineering
Under the clear blue winter sky, the dynamic silhouette of the white Onaruto Bridge stretches from the foreground to the distance, dominating the center of the frame. Beneath it, the deep blue waters of the Naruto Strait rush with vigor. If timed right, one can witness the famous Naruto whirlpools, and on this day, a hint of the swirling currents can be discerned on the right side of the photograph.
Story Behind the Photo – A Quest for the Whirlpools
While the distinct spiraling of the Naruto whirlpools wasn’t prominently visible, it’s said that boarding a sightseeing boat offers a closer and clearer view. On this particular day, after an early flight to Tokushima and a drive from Tokushima Airport to Awaji Island, a detour to Naruto Cape was a must, driven by the desire to witness the whirlpools. After capturing this moment, a delightful lunch awaited at a local restaurant. The fish, nurtured by the fierce currents of the strait, was exceptionally delicious.
From an Amateur Photographer’s Perspective – Choices and Regrets
The shot was taken with a narrower aperture to ensure focus throughout the frame. This decision led to a slightly slower shutter speed, resulting in a somewhat ambiguous capture of the water’s movement. In hindsight, an even slower shutter speed might have artistically captured the flow of the tides, suggesting that there’s always room for experimentation and improvement in photography.
