On a refreshing autumn day in mid-October, the Oyama Afuri Shrine in Isehara, Kanagawa, presents a mesmerizing panorama of the Sagami Plain, with towns like Isehara, Fujisawa, Chigasaki, and Hiratsuka sprawling in the center, and the tranquil Sagami Bay with Enoshima and the Miura Peninsula in the distant right, all under the watchful gaze of the shrine.
Photo Description – Nature’s Canvas
The photograph captures the heart of the Sagami Plain, with towns bustling with life. To the right, the shimmering waters of Sagami Bay stretch out, leading the eye towards Enoshima and the Miura Peninsula. Although not clearly visible in the photograph, the distant Boso Peninsula completes this breathtaking view. The foreground is graced with verdant trees, some of which are just beginning to show hints of autumnal gold, signaling the onset of the season.
Story Behind the Photo – A Journey to Tranquility
After a 15-minute walk from the base of Mount Oyama and a brief 10-minute cable car ride up its challenging slopes, the world seems to open up. As one steps towards the Oyama Afuri Shrine, the vast landscape unfolds, compelling any photographer to capture its grandeur. The challenge was capturing the vibrant greens of the foreground without overshadowing the distant vistas. After several attempts, this shot emerged, encapsulating both the immediate beauty and the distant allure in a delicate balance.
From an Amateur Photographer’s Perspective – The Challenge of Contrast
The sheer beauty of the view was overwhelming, leading to a flurry of shutter clicks. However, the stark contrast between the lush foreground and the expansive backdrop posed a challenge. Adjusting for one often led to overexposure or underexposure of the other. After various attempts, this shot was chosen as the best compromise, capturing as much of both worlds as possible. The changing weather might offer different perspectives, making a revisit under different conditions an enticing idea.
