Amidst the radiant embrace of a summer’s morn at Kosode Coast, I witnessed the timeless dance of the northernmost Ama divers, a tribute to Japan’s profound traditions.
Photo Description – Framing Kosode
Nestled in Iwate’s Kuji city lies the picturesque Kosode Coast. On this bright summer day, the warmth was undeniable, yet the sight of the serene ocean offered a fleeting coolness. Known as the setting for NHK’s morning drama “Amachan”, I had the privilege to observe the ‘Northernmost Ama’ divers gracefully display their free-diving skills. Their dedication to their craft, evident even on a quieter weekday, was both a sight to behold and an experience to cherish.
Story Behind the Photo – Beyond the Frame
This isn’t just a photograph, but a window into a moment. A moment where the Ama divers, after their dive, generously offered a taste of the sea — freshly caught urchin, cracked open right there on the beach. The delectable taste was a genuine essence of the sea. While the photo captures a fragment of Kosode’s charm, the expansive beauty of the coast and ocean beckons one to visit and immerse in its entirety.
From an Amateur Photographer’s Perspective – Behind the Lens
Inspired by the natural beauty and the genuine warmth of the locals, this shot aimed to encapsulate the heart of Kosode Coast. The challenges? Balancing the vivid hues of the summer and capturing the raw emotions of the moment. While I’m content with this capture, the true essence of Kosode is best experienced in person.
